Slow trim tabs.

My trim tabs seem to be slow. What could cause this? There is plenty of fluid.

I also do not have an indicator that would tell me there position either. Because there so slow, it's difficult to judge sometimes if the tabs have moved any while underway.

How fast should they move from one extreme to the other?

Thanks!!

Re: Slow trim tabs.

Hydraulic tabs are not the fastest things in the world to start with. If you have noticed a deterioration of late it could be a loose fitting, might of hit something unknown to you causing a bind somewhere, could also be the pump itself going bad. I'd shoot the electrical for a loose or corroded wire - bound or kinked line or just the switch itself.
It really is a very basic system so your options for faults should be fairly straightforward.
If it is a Bennett system here is their link to possibly troubleshoot:http://www.bennetttrimtabs.com/

Re: Slow trim tabs.

Thanks for the link. I've had the boat for only a month so I don't know if this is normal or not....but I'll check the link.

Thanks again.

I've never timed them but I'd say something like 6-8 seconds from full up to full down.

Re: Slow trim tabs.

I got digging around on the Bennett website and they say full up to full down individually 4-5 seconds, in combination in 9-10 seconds so I guess I was off by a second or so.

I'd check all your power connections to make sure they are clean. Check the voltage to the power unit.

Disconnect the hydraulic lines at transom and try pulling the actuators down by hand to make sure they?re not bound up

Check the fluid level. Make sure you check at the full up position.
