I picked up a set of horns cheep at a garage sale and they don't work. I diassembled them and the internals all look good. The seal was tight and didn't look like any water intrusion. Looking inside, I'm really not sure how they work. THere is a component in the center that looks like an ignition point, and there is a slight amount of corrosion present. It would take further disassembly to access the "Point".

Anybody have any suggestions re. where to start and what to look for?

Re: Signaltone Electric Trumpet Horns

Can you post a picture?

If I remember correctly they are nothing more than a glorified car horn. IN that they have a coil inside. when you apply power the coil causes a diaphram to pulsate and vibrate. This noise acts much like a speaker works. The noise is amplified by the bell in the horn.

You should put a Ohm meter across the two contacts and see what it reads. I would expect to see somewhere in the 3-30 ohm range. If the meter reads infinity (usally a 1) then the coil is open and there really is no repair other than re winding the coil.
