Default 1983 115 Evinrude water inside lower port cylinder. Help....

I have an evinrude 115 and the lower port cylinder has water in it. I noticed this when I went to change the plugs, and that plug was really clean and had traces of water. I checked the compression, and all of the cylinders held 120 lbs. I was thinking it maybe the head gasket, what do you guys think?????

It could be the head gasket, but it could also be the exhaust cover gasket. Either way, keep adding oil into the cylinder until you pull the cylinder head and fix it.

Thanks, I pulled the cylinder head, and I ordered the gaskets off evinrudes site. I could not see where the water was getting in at, but I did see a small hose above the cylinder. Any ideas what this is for?????

There are four small sections of hose in the 115 crossflow that are called water deflectors. They guide the flow of water through the cooling passages. If they are out of place the engine will overheat.

Clean the cylinder head mating surfaces very well and torque the head to specs using a good torque wrench. 18-20 ft. lbs.

tighten the bolts as follows:

9 10
5 6
1 2
4 3
8 7

Your compression looks ok for all cyls. I'd tend to change the two exhaust cover gaskets first. Exhaust cover water leaks tend to affect the bottom cylinder/s. In addition to gasket replacement, check the inner cover for porosity (casting holes) or cracks before you reassemble.
