I am pretty sure the drive ratio would incorrect for the 302, and maybee to much power for it, not sure. I am sure a pro will chime in soon.

This question has been asked a lot here, this is the short answer:

You'll need to replace the entire drive train, engine and all. Trying to make the different brands' parts work together is possible if you have a machine shop and a lot of money.

Since it sounds like you don't, I'd suggest either repairing the volvo drive or looking for a used one somewhere. You can also swap the complete mercruiser drive train into the boat, but you'll probably be underpowered, and that's a lot of work.

Also, adding floatation to the rear of the boat will only help if it's outside the hull... adding more foam inside won't do anything but add weight.
