Hi Guys, I own a 1980 dixie fiberglass, it is powered by a 1979 mercruizer 140 I/O. I am getting water in my lower unit. at some point in the past few months i ran over some mono fishing line which appears to have went inside the lower unit via the prop shaft and chewed the seal up. I am not a marine mechanic but am mechanically inclined. What tool or tools do I need? is it a bearing carrier retainer wrench? if so what part number of tool do I need to buy? I plan on fixing it myself to not pay a large repair bill. I found a wrench dealer on ebay that has many of them is this what I need?

Also I was looking to hear some suggestions on how to get some more power out of the 140, It has new wires, dist cap and plugs and is well maintained. it has always been reliable since I restored the boat. I just need some more power due to hauling a lot of weight. I have four troling motor batteries, a large bait tank, kicker mtr, downriggers and other heavy items although I am not overweight with just 2 people in it. but very close. it planes ok with a 21p prop. A 19p seems too slow a 23 dosent plane out well. The engine manual says that 4,000 is about the max rpm to run it but the tach goes to 6,000 without a redline marked. Is it safe to go over the 4,500 mark? I dont want to hurt the boat for it is the only one I can afford for a few more years.
thanks again!-
