350 magnum, b2 outdrive 2006 Bayliner 289. We have had motor or outdrive noise at flat cruise 1600-1700 rpm 7-8 mph ever since we puchased boat one year ago. Outdrive top end was replaced one week after we picked up the boat and complete new outdrive was installed July this year. I maintain the noise is coming from the motor and being transferred into the drive. How could we have so many bad drives. Some say it is exhaust noise and there certainly is lots of that, since they only install a rubber tube instead of the bellows. As soon as drive is turned or trimmed the exhaust all comes up the transom and because this boat does not have built in swim platform it makes it all the louder.
Anyone out there that have had noisy 350 mag motors and if so what was causing the problem.
Also had anyone replaced the tube with a bellows and if so what difference did it make.

Re: 350 Mag motor and exhaust noise

I'm curious as well. I have the tube on my boat, but I'm considering putting on a bellows, if it will make things quieter. It's not overwhelmingly loud, but I like my vehicles to be as quiet as possible...

Except for my bike, which as a mild pipe on it, that's quiet until you hit about 7200RPM or so... Then I kinda like the "scream" it puts out. But I digress...

I'd like to know how much of a difference to expect, if I go to the trouble...
