I was given a 1968 Evinrude from my Grandparents. The motor has sat outside since 1978. I bought new plugs, put on new fuel lines, and replaced the pull-start cord and the darn thing started in the second pull! i was amazed. Any way i know the oil ratio is 50:1, but what other maintenance issues should i be worried about with this motor. Is it a great motor or should i expect a life time of repair and turmoil?
I alread flushed the lower unit and put in fresh gear oil, and from what i can tell the water pump is working as there was water coming out the exit holes.
I know the water pump is a rubber wheel, should i repalce that just for peace of mind?
I am just looking for some experience with these motors as I have none. and any recommendations for maintenance and storage as this will be the motor for my Duck boat, it will mainly be used in the cold winter months.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
