1994 Johnson 70hp - no power above low speed

Engine starts runs well. I can rev it up in neutral just fine. In gear it runs smooth but has no power above low/mid speed. RPMs don't go above 3000 when in gear. I have checked cylinder pressure and all 3 are 130 - 135 psi. I have replaced the spark plugs and am using all new gas.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You are running on less than all three cylinders. Likely culprit, a dirty carburetor. It must be disassembled and cleaned. Do all three.

I did clean all 3 carbs and it didn't help. All 3 cylinders have good compression. Any other ideas?

Could it be a timing issue? If so, what should it be set at and how do I adjust it? (I do have a timing light)

On the three bangers it is all in the link and sync. Checked the connecting rod to the timing pickup the ball and sockets were bad on mine.

Good luck

I see the marks on top of the fly wheel, but what are the proper settings? How do I adjust the timing? Do I need it at a certain RPM when I set it and where do I make the adjustments?
