hi, this is my first post, infact first even seeing this forum so i'm hoping for help for a long time problem with my engine.
I've had this "surge" problem a few years now. when throtling up, and running approx 3-4k rpm (17.5' Tracker Fishing boat) it never gets up to full speed and surges and right from the start i thought it was either electrical or fuel problem, i checked fuel lines, screen in bottom of fuel tank, one time i removed fuel lines from connector on both sides of engine cowl, flushed and then seemed to run good again for a while, but now it's still doing this.
last year in sprin i took it to the most popular omc dealer/mechanics and after a $300+ bill, they said they can't find the problem, do i want them to go further, i couldn't afford more money so that is actually when i flushed the fuel lines, i also replaced all coils, wires and plugs. from the start of the problem to now it is a little better but still get surges. i cleaned the plugs couple times this year and it improves but doesnt' go away, today i am installing new plugs (Champ QL78YC) I'm sure it'll be a little better, but as always will probably return. I know this is a long post but i wanted to explain what i've done up to now. Any help???? Please
Thanks,
john

If you connect a meter set on ac scale connect to ingition coil, run boat until problem appears, then check the other 2 cylinders, voltage should be steady and same numbers all 3 cylinders, if not you have an ignition problem. Check powerpack mounting plate for loose bolts, pack grounds thru this plate. Check pigtail on temp sensor should be tan/blue stripe wire, if tan only, needs to be upgraded.

Thanks for the reply. some real good info, i'll take my meter next time out but in the mean time i'll check those other possibilities.
I replaced the plugs yesterday and ran it, it ran much better although couple times at higher rpm's it did hesitate couple times.
thanks again, hope it all works.
