1990 evinrude 225 breaking up @ 2800 rpms

I have a 1990 Evinrude 225 that starts and idles fine. It powers up fine until about 2700 - 2900 rpms and then starts to break up. Don't know if it fuel or ignition?

Sounds like the S.L.O.W. feature is engaging. Read your manual on that feature and its' causes and that should get you started in the right direction.

I did a little searching about slow mode and found out about the temperature sensor on the port side of my engine. Disconnected it and she is running fine. Thanks for the info. I am now going to try to buy a new one and replace. I bought the boat used and I never had the alarm sound because it was disconnected by the shift.
