Help installing a kill switch

I have a 1993 75hp mercury and I want to add a kill switch. The switch I purchased has very poor instructions. The problem I have is my ignition is the kind that you push in the key to prime and has 10 wires that come out of the back. How do I know which wire to cut to install the switch? The switch is compatible with both IO and outboards but the IO instructions seem to fit my application better. Thanks Tom

I'm surprised it doesn't already have one. Anyway, you want the black wire with a yellow stripe. Don't cut it, just splice into it. When you activate the kill switch it should put a ground on that wire. Same thing happens when you turn the motor off.

Re: Help installing a kill switch

Bill,
Thank You for your help. It now makes sense to me. I was confused because the store "expert" I spoke with told me to follow the IO directions if my boat had a key ignition. Tonight I followed your directions and it seem to work for me. I agree that this boat should have had a tether/ switch.
Thanks again Tom

Glad to help. Don't you just love those store "experts"? LOL
