2001 15hp Johnson

I purchased a used 15hp Johnson. The problem is that sometimes it idles fine then the next time it stops. This model has a small knob on the end of the tiller that everyone tells me is how you set the idle speed. Spent hours playing with this knob and I do not understand how it works.

Any one have any experience with this?

If it is the same type as my '86 15Hp, then that little control knob at the end of the tiller basically sets where the twist throttle stops at idle. Like a mechanical stop. Twisting the knob one way makes the throttle idle position more "open", the other way more "closed".

Hope thatr makes sense.
