How do I replace the impeller

I have a 1984 Merc 3.0 and I have an over heating problem. I checked everything in the motor and it all works fine . The problem I think is that it is not getting water to the motor. When I put the muffs in It gets water because it is forced in there. How do I get to the impeller? I tried taking the five nuts off of the lower unit but nothing moved. Is there a trick?

You're on the right track. There may be one more bolt under the trim tab that you would remove from underneath.
