I saw a pontoon boat sink at the boat launch to day because he had taken out the plugs in both pontoons. He must have also taken off something near the top of the pontoons because it didn't take very long to sink. They were able to get it up onto the concrete launch, but needed to wait for the thing to drain. He only made it a few hundred feet prior to realizing something was wrong. Lucky for him he made it back to the boat launch.
I asked him why he taken out the plugs and he said he has had a small leak for a while and always needs to drain both pontoons after use. He finds it drains quicker if he also lets air in by opening something near the top of the pontoons. He has now decided he would like to have the leaks fixed before he uses his boat again. I told him that I thought that was a good idea.
