i have a 1985 3.7 170 mercruiser. i have coolant leaking from the weep hole. what is involved in takeing this apart and is this the one were a new cam has to be put in. thanks
You won't need to replace the cam.The front of the pump and related items need to be removed. If you are mechanically inclined it can be done yourself.
There is a sleeve kit that can be installed. It can be tricky.
To be positive it's done right take it to a Mercruiser dealer. It will cost more but the guarantee is worth it.
If you do it yourself be carefull of damaging the cam.It will be very costly if you mess it up.Jerry
If you take it to a Mercruser Dealer, they will install a new cam if there is a damaged sealing surface on the cam. Mercruiser does not use or recommend Speedy Sleeves. They can be used as a temporary fix (that may last for a very long time) but trust me, no certified, quality, Mercruiser dealer is going to recommend a sleeve fix. Or guarantee it if they did use one.
