Hi I have a 1998-99 Mercury 4 Cyl 4 stroke Carb model S/N 9944810
Gearbox went on me and I am trying to find a replacement 1.83:1 Ratio
Casting No on gearbox housing is 1682 8213 06 C. It is a x/long shaft mesures 24" from top of waterpump with 13 splines, Gear shift is as long as drive shaft with a kink at the end. Pinion gear is 13 teeth foward & reverse gears have 22 teeth. Can I fit any other gearbox to this motor I have been told a 3 cyl 2 stroke one will fit I may need to change shifter shaft & extend driveshaft.
