I have an old merc engine, it runs like a top, its been rebuild somewhere along the way. Anyhow, I am having a horrible time with the shifter/control box. I have decided I want to replace it, I have mounted the key ignition and choke on the dash already, all I need to know is would it work to put a newer style shifter/control on it, I just need to know if I purchase a Ultraflex Single Lever Side-Mount Control for instance would it have the appropriate throw distance to be able to put my merc in gear forward and reverse. My engine does not have trim so that doesn't matter and since i have already put the key and choke on the dash it doesn't need anything other than the shifter. Whats your ideas?
