I have a 1989 Mercruiser Bravo 1. Runs fine, no major problems (replaced gimbal ring, gimbal baring) but since my motor is in need of a major amount of work, I started to think (paranoia :D) what other prevantative maintenance should i look into ?

In other words, should I proactively rebuild parts from the drive (the lower unit, Upper unit?) is this a if it ain't broke, don't fix it, or you should consider rebuilding them every X years?

If so how much should you expect to pay for a rebuild?

thanks

Cost depends on how many parts are used on the rebuild.

A reseal of the drive (replace all the oil seals) is the best PM that can be done

If the oil stays IN and the water OUT the rest holds up pretty well

Ayuh,.... Exactly......

When doing a Reseal,.... The Mechanic will be closely inspecting every piece of the drive,.....
If he finds something Wrong,... Fix It....
That's always Better than just running it til it grinds into little bitty Bits......

Thanks,
As my machine is down for the season, It sounds like a good idea to bring it in to have it resealed.

thanks for the advice.
