I have a Mercury out borard 2 stroke motor for my boat and it ideals really good but when i go to put in gear forward or revers it dies out. I even took it to a marnia but they didnt know what was wrong with it.

What's the RPM's in neutral? What did the marina check, and what did they find?

When's the last time it ran right? Sounds like a fuel delivery problem - i.e. carbs need cleaning and sync'ing.

1973 85hp cooling problem. Water not coming out of the head until 2000 to 3000 rpm. At idle it stops flowing completely. After changing the impeler and the impeller housing, ( the old one was in good condition) it was no help. We have double checked the impeller installation, shot compressed air all thru the water passages, and still the same result. Head gasket looks good. While running at 2000 to 3000 rpm, the water starts to flow from the top and is very hot.. any suggestions. thanks

I'll try and and give you my 2 cents worth.I have a 72 80 horse Mercury outboard and had some of the same issue's.After 3 attemps I took a good look at the copper pipe in the mid section that feeds the water to the motor and found it was not correctly meeting up with the top part of the motor,also made sure the impeller was seated correctly rotating clock wise (meaning so that the fins were bent to the left.I dont know if this helps but it took me awhile to get it right but its better than having to buy a new motor.
