Where do you measure for the rail width? I ask because my beam is 6'11" (83") (widest point I understand that), but the bimini top selector on iboats says I need the 73"-78". Ok, but my current cockpit cover rails are only 68" wide. I was thinking I could just fit the new bimini where the current cover attaches. Is this that 'new math' I hear so much about?

The boat is a 1994 Bayliner Capri 1604. Thanks in advance.

It should be as large as she needs it to be, but it does look nice if it's a bit snug, perhaps half a size smaller than perfect.

Oh, biMini. The rail width should be measured where you're going to mount the attachment points for the top. I think most biminis are sized larger at the fabric part in order to cover a wider portion of the boat below, but the important thing is that you can attach it to your boat at the gunwale level.

Where ever you want to mount it would be the the measurement to take.
You can get narrower frames.
My Seary has rails on the inside of the cockpit.
I am currently fitting a bimini to the very outside edge of a McKee Craft (Whaler wannabe).
Whatever works for you.
