I am going to attempt the rebuild of my engine. Working on car engines I do pretty well but this will be my first venture into boat mechanics. Do you guy recommend any particular boat manuals? Is one any better than the other?

Is there any cool new toys that are must haves to work on boat motors?

Re: manual and rebuild

The OE manual is the best by far. Which special tools you need (if any) would depend on what motor it is.

Beerboy, you definately got the best help you could in Mr Hadley to help you through a rebuild. I would follow his advice.

As asked, what model are we talking about here? Look on www.ebay.com for a FACTORY OEM SERVICE manual, or www.outboardbooks.com for a factory reprint. You can also get them right here on iboats.

You will need some specialized tooling that you may not already have such as a harmonic balancer puller with grade 8 bolts to remove the flywheel, but Im sure you already have one of the most important for reinstallation, the torque wrench.
