Default mercury 50 2 stroke

my fishing partner has a factory rigged fisher marine with a merc. 50 2 stroke.(2003) the boat is 17' long and 60" wide and very heavy but that mercury really pushes that boat and i am impressed. i've noticed that the mercury 50 seems to be the engine of choice on most of bass pro shops boat packages but they're hard to find anywhere else. why is there not anything about them on mercury's website? are they good motors? someone told me the 50 2 stroke was made in china, say it ain't so?

First off, the motors are made in Wisconsin, not China. I've got one and and it's a great motor. The motors you see on the Bass Pro (Tracker) and Lowe package boats are the Mercury 2 strokes, which are comparatively "old" technology. Mercury wants to emphasize their Optimax and Verado lines, but sells a pile of the 50, 90 and 115 two strokes to boat manufacturers for their package boats. Many of the boat makers are also owned by Brunswick (Lowe, Lund, etc.), creating a direct pipeline.

If you look http://www.mercurymarinelatinamerica...ry_2stroke.htm, you will find the specs on these two stroke engines.

Cheers, Gary
