30 HP Evinrude, will start if choked, idles out in neutral or reverse
I've got a '88 30 HP Evinrude. It was in storage for about 2 years. I pulled it out a month ago, ran some new gas into it and it started on the first crank. But when I got it out on the water, I found that it would crank but idle out quickly if not thrown into forward gear, somewhat tricky business when launching at a busy marina.
I played with the idle screw some, and it improved, but not a lot. I bought some spray-in carb cleaner, is that a good place to start?
the only thing you ever spray into a 2 stroke carb, is premix fuel/oil. the rest strips the lubrication of the engine internals. starter fluid is too hot, the easiest way to burn a hole in a piston.
we all need to support iboats marine store when ever possible. you get, competitive prices. fast shipping, top notch customer service. also it provides us, this great FREE forum.
