Default 1991 Evinrude 48 SPL, cleaning carb.

Is this a job I can do myself? I'm always looking to save some $ and learn new things about my engine at the same time. The shop did a great job last year, but if I can do it myself, I would love to put that money towards gas for the Fall season. Thank you in advance!

if the shop did it last year, why do you think they need it this year? are you having problems, if so what are they. instructions here:

No problems, but I can tell it isn't running quite as good as it used to. Maybe I am just a perfectionist and want it running 110% all the time. How often do you suggest doing the carb. cleaning? Thanks for the link too!

if seafoam is used in your fuel, carbs can go 10-15 years without cleaning. i would look at the plugs, plug wires, they deteriorate over time. if i were to check anything it would be compression. how often do you change your impeller? should be atleast every 2 years.
