Default Buying a new Boat

I currently have a 1990 Baja 190 DSR, with the 4.3L GM V-6 and Yamaha stern drive. I am looking to sell this to purchase something newer and I am not sure what brand would be recommended. So I am asking all of you for inputs. I will try to give you as much info as I can. I live in San Diego and do the freshwater/saltwater thing. 80% Freshwater/20% saltwater. They charge here to use their lakes, so I go to the bay when I have either finished some repair and want to test drive, or I just need to get on the water for an hour or so. The major freshwater area I use my boat in is the Colorado River. What I would like to get is something between 19 and 21 ft. V-6 or V-8, Mercruiser I/O, with open seating in the front. With the rest of that in mind, The big factor I am looking for is DRAFT and depth in water. When cruising the Colorado, I am constantly watching for sandbars and have to trim up frequently to protect my I/O. I guess in a way I am looking for a ligher boat? I try not to carry more weight than necessary when I am cruising the river, but I haven't noticed any difference. I do envy all you jet riders out there that don't have this problem, but I still have a budget (wife, kid). So would anyone reccomend a manufacturer that would allow me to trim up less on the river and stay within a budget of $10,000? Thank you, Justin

If draft is the big issue for the change look at some alumnium boats that are outboard powered. Much lighter and the motors are designed to tilt when you hit something.

For the $10k you should be able to get close to a used jet. Also try another site - Hot Boat Forums Kelly Cook
