Hello all,
After all that discussion about the best OMC motor under 10 HP, I was talking to grandpa about it, and he said he had an old outboard I could have. Turns out to be a 1962 Sea King 5HP with about 20 hours on it. It had a rebuild done in 1993 with new ignition, etc. I know this is the Johnson/Evinrude forum, but seeing as though this Gale-built motor has got to be sharing parts, I wanted to ask a couple questions as I can't find any literature.
This definitely has a shared lower unit, and the ignition looks the same as a johnson/evinrude. Does anybody know for certain if the carb is the same as the 1962 johnson/evinrude 5.5HP's? If so, do the regular needle settings apply?
It has a fuel pump and uses a one-line tank. However, there is no filter bowl on the carb like my others... I assume there's a screen in the fuel tank suction tube, but is this enough protection against debris in the fuel? Could I put in a cheapo filter, or will this strain out the two-stroke oil?
Thanks in advance,
Jonathan
