I have an older 70 hp merc outboard in need for some repair. I don't know the year but the serial # is 7172599. Can anyone help me out? The trouble I am having happened this weekend, for no obvious reason I have no reverse. The shifter arm is moving at the motor from what I can see. When it's shifted to forward it's ok, neutral is ok, when I go to reverse it stays in neutral and the prop spins freely by hand both ways it doesn't click counter clockwise like it used to. I don't have a manual that is why I need the year from above.
