In 2002, the question was asked if the Smartcraft gauges for the Mercury 4-Stroke EFI motors were worth the money. A response stated that the 2002 models were not rigged with the digital sending units required to operate the gauges nor was there a provision in the engine wiring harness to add sensors. Has any of this information changed since 2002? I have a 2004 50 HP Bigfoot 4-Stroke EFI motor and would like to add gauges to monitor engine temperature and oil pressure.

yes, go to the merc marine website, (http://www.mercurymarine.com/otherproducts/smartcraft/smartcraftataglance/engines/outboards.php) also if you look in your owners manual you shouls see a section that says the engine is smartcraft ready, meaning it has the 555 ECM for the smartcraft.

you will see that the 50hp is plug and play, I just created a thread on installation of the system if you need any help with the install, or p/n's

all you will need is one cable (with two resistors) to connect to the engine and a system monitor, I can tell you where to look but I priced the two at 200$. I ended up doing the tach and speedo system.
