Strange tach reading. I searched about ten pages on tachs and did not see anything.

98 yammie 60hp like new condition. The tach has G3 stamped on the face plate. The tach just started acting up. Turn key on and the tach reads zero. Start motor and the tach goes right to 6000 rpm. Plane the boat out and the rpms start working counter clockwise but stops at 5500. I also have noticed that the working the trim will make the needle jump a bit. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Check your grounds and connections. The jumping when you surge the electrical system with the power trim is the dead giveaway here.
