first idea is to post the complete model number.
second is to have the hull rigged with the yamaha digital tach.
3rd idea is there are no automtic shutdowns on the V yamaha motors so you may have n issue.
there are also no fuel restriction alarms either.
a picture,especially port and stbd sides,of this engine may help.
the EXCEL was built in about a 220HP version and only for a few years imported into the US. I dont recall a 175 EXCELL but memory on 20+ years ago fades

would not be the first time I have seen powerheads and frames swapped nor engine hood swaps.
thats why powerhead pictures are nice,we can positivly identify what ign/fuel system you have.
the EXCELL used a micro-processor CDI setup with a TPS and some other sensors.
