I recently took my outboard in for diagnosis for WOT issues. The high speed coil on the stator is not putting out the voltage needed. After receiving a $700 fix price, I have decided to fix it myself. I have the engines manual and some tools. Took it to a dealer because I didn't have a DVA meter. The cost of diagnosis was almost the cost of a meter.

My question is should I go OEM, Sierra or CDI for a replacement? The OEM part is the most expensive although I can get it much cheaper off the internet than through the dealer.

Cheapest replacement, I understand the lack of coating on the windings helps keep the stator cooler. What about corrosion when used in saltwater?
Also is it compatible with the other OEM parts ie. the trigger and switch box?

I do a lot of low speed trolling so the motor does run abit warmer I suppose?

All windings are coated with varnish or other insulating compounds so salt air/water should have no more deleterious effect on them than on any other electrical component on your motor.

I've used lots of CDI stators and never had a callback. So have no fear using them. Just my $.02...........ed
