Question help with a mercury xr2 fuel problem?

I took my boat out today for the first time and i had a problem.... it ran good for 30 minutes or so and then it stopped. It acted like it ran out of gas and the pressure ball sucked shut. Does anyone have any idea of why or what caused this? I would appreciate a response..... thanks alot... ronny

Either the vent is plugged up on the gas tank, or something in the gas tank covered up the pickup screen, or something got on the fuel line pinching it off.

You get the picture.

The most frequent offender in the fuel tank is a seal foil off'n an oil bottle.

hope it helps
John

If you get stumped finding the possible restriction, you can use a vacuum gauge to troubleshoot this further. You just need a T-conenction to place the vacuum gauge at various locations in the fuel line (e.g., where the fuel line connects to the fuel pump, where the fuel line connects to the fuel tank, where the fuel hose connects to the squeeze bulb, etc.) The below linked thread contains a Mercury Service Advisory that provides a more detailed guide for troublehooting fuel starvation issues.
