Default G3 1756 Center Console

I'm looking for some advice with a boat purchase. I've settled on the fact this is the hull I want to purchase, but am not sure which engine would perform best. I've narrowed it down to:

1. Yamaha 50hp 2 stroke
2. Yamaha 50hp 4 stroke
3. Yamaha 60hp 4 stroke
4. Yamaha 70hp 2 stroke

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

well the boat is rated for 70hp. the rule of thumb for performance, minimum HP is 70% 50 hp is 71% of the rated HP, which is the mimimum. add the weight of a 4 stroke motor and you are considered under powered. i have never heard anyone complain about having too much HP. if it were me i would got with the rated 70hp 2 stroke. you don't have to use all of the HP, but nice when outrunning a squall. it will also help in the resale value of the boat. thats my opinion.

I really appreciate the feedback. I have to admit, I'm more torn between the 60hp 4S and the 70hp 2S. From what I can tell, the weight is virtually the same. Based on the fact it seems a 50hp is enough power and the advantages of the 4S, I'm leaning toward the 60hp 4S over the 70hp 2S. While Yamaha doesn't have specific performance bulletins for this model of G3, similar models don't have enough difference in speed to overlook the gas consumption at cruise +. Am I off base?
