Hi I was docking my boat when I put it into reverse and then had to put it in forward. When I put it into forward gear I skipped neutral and went straight into forward. I noticed that the engine was revving but the prop was not spinning. When it finally went into gear I heard a loud band. Once engaged the drive was making a low bang/clanking noise repeatedly.

What happened?

Did I brake the joints or something else??

Re: Reverse to foward but skipped neutral

Your problem probably started because of improperly adjusted or defective shift cables or bad shift interrupt switch that caused you to have to force it past neutral and also engage the throttle.
You need to pull the drive and look at the ujoints, no way we can tell without looking.
Might also pull the top cap off the drive and inspect the gears. (drain some of the gear lube so you can see them)

Sounds like a problem with the shift cable or interrupt switch......
If you have that noise in neutral at idle, I would look at the u joints....;)
