I have a 1987 evinrude 200hp on a ranger 390. Engine will not run at idle. Smell gas odor. it takes forever to plane out but runs good top in. I took carbs out checked out low and high idle air jets. Bottom carb had same jets in both 46. Could this be part of the problem. What is the correct sizes. I also changed plugs it had nkz went with champions could this also help.

what Champions are you running? have you check compression, and spark with a spark tester, should jump 7/16 inch.

is this a new motor to you, or did the motor run fine, and has now start to do this?

go to sparkplug.com and yea can find the best plug for your motor....i would clean out the carbs real good a little piece of junk could cause the engine not to run right.....also check to make sure you have the right prop on your boat my buddy had a bass boat and it wouldn't plane up for awhile also he changed the prop to a smaller one and it planes out just fine now just a few ideas.....

QL77JC4 gapped at .030 are the correct plugs. lets start at the proper place with this trouble shooting, no need to buy parts unnecessarily. lets start as i said above, with a compression test, and a spark check. you need a screw in compression tester, preferably with the hose, and an adjustable spark tester. auto parts store. we need this info first, to tell if you still have a viable base to work with.
