Likely to be a bad solenoid or bad key switch. I'm thinkin' solenoid!
You can check to see if the switch is causing problems by disconnecting the yellow wire (solenoid 'hot' wire) from the small terminal on the solenoid and measure for voltage with a meter or test lite. Turn the switch on and off a number of times and see if you get voltage on the wire with the key in the "off" position. If so, replace the switch.
But I'd bet on the solenoid. Usually the contacts burn out and then they just "click" without energizing the starter, but it's not unheard of to have them stick like you described. Sometimes you can give the solenoid a sharp 'rap' on the side with the handle-end of a screwdriver and it'll jar the contacts loose. But they'll stick the next time no doubt!
