I'm a newbie to Iboats so, howdy everybody. After reading through the posts from others I hesitate to even post this but I'll make my first thread a bang. I am looking to bump my 1999 2str 3cyl 40 to a 50. It appears that the 60 has the same block but apparently has a little more extensive port work done....so setting it up for more than the 50 would require port work. NOt happening. I'll settle for the 50. Just need a little more top end for my longer runs and really don't wanna get rid of the motor and get new...
It would appear from others posts aside from repitching a prop, I'll need the 50hp Carbs, to remove the reed stops, new reeds(boyesen apparently give a smoother idle and a couple hundered more RPMs??..), new 50/60hp oil injection pump, and a t-fitting for the oil line, and to polish the reed block assembly. I have wrenched on 2 and 4stroke MX bikes when I was racing a pretty decent amount and definitely am mechanically inclined. If I get the shop manual and the right parts is this something I could do?? Any rough estimates on hours in labor for a full time mechanic and then a novice mechanic? How difficult is it to polish the reed block assembly?? Thanks for any infor or help fellas
