I have a minnkota 65lb thrust 24volt trowling motor aproximately 3 years old.
the problem is there is no forward movement when you put it in forward it only goes in reverse as well as in any gear does anyone have a solution?
Battery cables reversed perhaps. This is a 24 volt motor so two batteries are required and they are wired in series. Have those batteries or the wiring been messed with lately? Here is what it should look like.
I had a similar problem with the Minn Kota that came with my boat - it would only run in reverse, not forward. The clamps where rusted, causing a bad connection. I corrected this any have not had an issue since.
Just a thought, could be a switch problem as well.
I assume this is hand controlled motor so there is a FWD-OFF-REV switch on the head? If so, it is very likely a switch problem. That switch is easy to replace (take a picture before disconnecting wires). Remove the old switch and install the new one. The switch can be tested if you know how to use an ohm meter. And if you know how to use an ohm meter you don't need me to explain how to test the switch.
