40hp help

I am trying to combine two motors in need of work into one good motor. One is a '73 one is a '82 both 40hp. everything seems to be going smooth but I can not seen to remove the plate that the stators mount to on either motor. I just looks like four bolts but it will not come loose. what am I missing . someone please help

You need to pull the flywheel hub it's holding the top main brg from coming off and thats the bearring retainer that your trying to pull.

so if I pull the flywheel hub will that main bearning and retainer come off.

Yes, it should come off a that point but in some cases it requires a puller

40hp help

I am doing the same with my motor(79' 40hp). I have been trying to actually replace that part, called the Upper End Cap. My stator shook loose and the screws bored out the holes in the upper end cap that the stator mounts to- urrr. My only problem is the hub is not wanting to come off. The best way to get the hub off is with the mercury puller. I'll get it eventually though. Good Luck:)
