Re: 95 Force 40 HP powerhead removal

I took the power head off my 99 40hp last year. Just from memory - The power head is attached to an adapter plate. You remove both together and unbolt the adapter plate after removal if necessary. You remove the lower cowl and the Power Head Adapter Plate assembly is held onto the motor by 4 stainless steel bolts from beneath. If you look inside the top of the motor you can see the top of the bolts just sticking up even with the adapter plate.

By the lower cowl are you talking about the entire length of the motor ore
the part containing the power head.
Thank you for the input.

Re: 95 Force 40 HP powerhead removal

I had to go look at mine. There are 6 bolts holding on the adapter plate power head assembly. I also am not using the right terminology. I call it the lower cowl which is not correct. You need to remove the trim cover (part 25 in the picture). Then you can get to the 6 stainless steel bolts from the lower side. Only 1 bolt holds on the trim cover. Be careful not to break it. The tilt and trim did not have to come off with mine. Please accept my apology.
