starting problems

I installed a new starter on my 77 55hp johnson and now the motor wont fire. The first time I tried the motor with the new started it fired immediately ran for 30 seconds and then died. Now when I turn the key, The flywheel turns with the starter but the motor never tries to fire.

Start with the basics- Spark-fuel-compression. If it ran before you changed the starter, I'd search for what happened in the meantime? I'd first assume that it is not some major but something was changed accidently. Wiring harness? Fuel line?

Go to the Engine FAQs. Do "Outboard won't start".

Let us know what you find. Changing the starter did not cause your problem.
