i received my 2 coils and am ready to install them on my 1971 evinrude 50 selectric

In the kit, they included the coil, a boot, a small spring, a grommet and a heat tube.
The heat tube is for the high tension lead; correct? or is it for the 2 small leads?

The spring and grommet go where?

Re: coil replacement procedure

-the tube goes on the plug wire.
-the spring pierces the end of the wire, and is the sparkplug connector.
-the grommet goes on the orange wire where it enters the electric box.

1. insert wire into heat protection straw
2. moisten wire with spit
3. push wire through spark plug boot
4. push spring clip through end of wire
5. pull wire back very slowly until spring seated in bottom of boot, position the spring so it will fit a spark plug tip.
6. let the spit dry ;)
7. mount it

Good job, I assume you found the instructions since you answered your own question. I just put mine in today, took about 10 min if that.

Re: coil replacement procedure

i did a forum search for 'stupid spring' and got a relevant hit :D

as soon as i figured out that the spring was the plug contact, i then used common sense to assemble it. the manual shows nothing. i have an aftermarket manual, possibly the OEM would have better guidance, but oh well, its done.
