Fresh water electric in salt water?

Was out crabbing this morning and my big motor quit and wouldn't restart. Only spare I had was my freshwater electric and it got my 18 foot cabin cruiser across the bay (about a mile) in a half hour. Now I'm wondering, what is the difference between a saltwater motor and a freshwater one. All my book says is it will void my warranty if I use it in saltwater. Well, it's two years old so that's history but is there something I should do to negate saltwater damage? Is there really a difference between freshwater and saltwater electric motors. Mine's a Minn Kota Vector.

Re: Fresh water electric in salt water?

We started using our old minn kota in salt water years ago, when they were just putting out the salt water ones. One of the things we noticed is the anodized aluminum as well as stainless hardware on the salt water ones, but they did not seem that different.
Only other thing and this just may be the natural transformation, they seemed to offer more thrust.
