Hi everyone! I have a 115hp Mariner O/M. I had it running this year once, but when I tried to start it again, i didn't get a spark on all cyl. I had a spark on 1-2-3-4 cyl. but after trying to figure out a problem (couldn't find anything) i had it on 2-3 cyl. only. What would be a problem? Thanks everyone!
Thank you, I'll try that! but let me ask you this, i talked to my friend and he said it could be the cracked wires on the trigger. What's your opinion on this?
Ok, here's what i found out after performing those tests:
stator- blue to ground 140v
stator- blue/white to ground 140v
stator- red to ground 15v
stator- red/white to ground 15v
trigger:
black to yellow sleeve
brown to white 1320 ohm
white to purple 1320 ohm
purple to brown 1320 ohm
I also swiched green wire on the coil from 3rd(working cyl.) to 4th(non-working cyl.) i had a spark on 4th cyl. That tells me that the coils are good. Then i did other way arround and i had no spark on 3rd cyl. Looks like to power from switchbox.
What do you think ?
Disconnect the kill wire to the boxes then, try swaping the input wires from the stator to the boxes, red to red/white and blue to blue/white and see if that changes the spark from odd to even number cyls as one side of the stator powers 1 box and the other powers the other. If that don't work disconnect the bios wire between the boxes.
On your engine it'e orange I believe the newer engines it's black/yellow and it connect to the same place the mercury switch does. When you OHMed the trigger it checks fine the stator checks a little low but is working and some times a slow turning engine will cause low voltage. I am afraid the switch box bios has failed.
Thank you very much for all of your info and help locating the problem. I bought new switchboxes and everything went to perfect order. Before I put them on, I had a weak spark, but now i see huge difference. Thanks again.
