I have now done the alternator replacement on my 470. I bought a 68 amp alternator from auto supplier(marine, listed as a replacement for other mercr models)cost was $210cdn,built a bracket-took most of one day,and am pleased with results. QUESTION I have is: in decommissioning the original 470 alternator I removed all the magnets from behind the pulley(since they were suspected of causing annoying rattling noise)WILL THIS cause any issues with the function of the pully as a vibration damper which I think is crucial to the longevity of any engine?? The rattling seems to be gone so am happy in that regard.
