Fuel and choke problem

I have a 1989 80 HP Mercury outboard. Engine will start with somewhat ease when cold not using the choke push key button. Engine goes into drive and reverse with no noticable problems. When I get out of the no wake zone and give it full throttle it will only go to about 3300 rpms. I can intermitantly push the choke button about 3 seconds apart and engine imediately goes to full throttle rpm and runs fine. If I quit tapping the choke button in like 3 second intervals it will slack back off to around 3300 rpm. It does seem to idle too high and again push the choke button and it idles back down smoothly. I have had these similar problems and I have rebuilt the fuel pump, new spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, sprayed cleaner in the carbs. Everthing I have done it seems to get a little better. It was only the last time out I discovered the miracle of timming the choke button. Do I need to adjust the fuel air mixture? And if so how is the best way to do it on my engine. It has 3 carbs.

I probably should have done this before posting but here is a little more info. I checked the position of the carb adjustments. Top was all the way in. Middle was 2 turns out. Bottom was 3 turns out. I am going to take it back out this week and test her out again. Where should I start with the carb adjustment - 1 1/2 turn out or is there a specific setting for this engine? Thanks in advance for any help.

1 1/2 truns is a good place to start, while in the water you need to ajust the idle mixture in gear on each carb, they will all be a little differant as far a number of turns.

Well - Went and run her tonight. Adjusted carbs. She run beautifully. But only for about 20 minutes and then started bogging again but not as bad as before. This boat hasn't run in a while. I am thinking maybe some more junk came loose and is hung somewhere. Going to do a good clean on carbs and check lines and try her again. Any suggestions are welcome.
