6HP Evinrude Fisherman no forward?

I have an old 6hp evinrude fisherman and when I was coming back in I noticed it seamed like I was not going as fast as I should and slowed down and went to shift into neutral and the shifter arm was limp and would only go into reverse and actually stayed there, anyone know what could be wrong, thanks

check the shift linkage. I had the bolt break on my 60hp and it was a stuck in reverse also.

on my 60 there is a couple of shift rods. The rod that came apart on mine is the one you take loose to seperate the lower half from the upper half. I'm not sure on your model you might try to find a service manual.

Just remove the 4 screws and lower the geacase enough to see the shift rod connector and make sure the screws have captured the beveled parts of the shift rod. You have to remove the screw completely to reattach it properly:
