I have 97 baja with a 454 it was starting to run hot so I pulled the sea pump and most of the impeller was shot. Back flushed the oil cooler and found all/most of the rubber parts. When I installed the new pump I tried to test water flow by leaving the hose off that goes to the oil cooler to verify water was pumping (started boat with ear muffs) no water pumped after 25 seconds of engine running should this pump or does the hose need to be on to the oil cooler to prime system?? Also I did'nt note if the "water in" pickup was on the top or bottom of the pump before I removed the old one.? any advice. Thanks.

Howdy,

That would make a pretty big difference,

If you get it backwards.....it won't suck.....

Wow!!! be more observant.. If you hooked them up backwards you probably fried your impeller too.. the two hoses are usually different. The water into the pump is usually hard and rigid to avoid collapse.. the one going out is softer.. Also did you install the impeller in the right direction.
