40hp overheat Alarm

Well just go home from the cabin and while up there the boat was alarming on what seem like a engine over heat .... I'm going to replace the water pump next time up. My question is Should it be peeing water out the back like a like a 2 stroke ? For the life of me I can not remember seeing a stream shooting out the back while the motor was running.... It is a 2002 merc 40hp 4-stroke.


After reading some of these post I was thinking Can I remove a restrector plate and make my motor run like a 60 or 50 maybe...lol
