I have a 2004 Glastron with a Volvo Penta I/O 3.0L. Does anyone know why the 3.0L has a timing spec of 2 degrees after TDC when most of the other engines in the Volvo penta stable have a timing base of 8 to 12 BTDC? Having the timing after TDC gives me the impression there may be more power in the engine. The engine is also rated as having ultra low emissions and I do know that if you shorting combustion time you can greatly reduce emissions. Does anyone know of a reason or is it just to reduce emissions like I am assuming.

Re: Ignition Timing

That is just the number needed for setting the distributor timing while the engine is in base timing mode. When taken out of base timing mode, it doesn't stay at 2? ATDC
